Ethiopia’s Meles held talks with Kenyan envoy

January 7, 2008 (ADDIS ABABA) — Ethiopian Prime Minster Meles Zenawi on Sunday received a message sent from Kenyan President, Mwai Kibaki.
Receiving the message from Kenyan Education Minister, Honorable Professor Gorge Saitoti, Meles said “Ethiopia will always pay an attention to assuring the regional peace and stability.”
During the occasion Prime Minister Meles expressed sadness on behalf of the Ethiopian people over the current chaos in Kenya.
“Ensuring peace and stability in Kenya will contribute a lot for the stability in Ethiopia and to the horn region as a whole.”He said adding “Ethiopia is always ready to play its part in bringing lasting peace and stability in the neighboring countries when ever needed”
Professor Gorge Saitoti on his part said “Ethiopia has always been there whenever its support was needed in bringing stability and restoring peace in the horn region.”
The Kenyan Minster has applauded Ethiopia’s over all efforts in the region.
According to a senior government official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who attend the meeting,PM Meles has spoke Kenyan opposition party leader, Raila Odinga through telephone ,soon after the political crises had occurred in that country.
Both sides have discussed over the current situation in Kenya and a possible way out.
According to Kenyan government committee, post-election violence in Kenya has claimed the lives of 486 people and drove 250,000 citizens out of their homes.
The envoy is part of kibaki’s government request to African nations to support the current political crises.
Government spokesman Alfred Mutua yesterday said “We have sent envoys to African countries with a special message to leaders that presents a clear picture of the political and security situation in the country.”
