Al-Burhan relieves Sovereign Council’s civilian members

لجتماع مجلس السيادة

Sovereign Council holds a regular meeting on April 18, 2022

July 5, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – The Chairman of the Sovereign Council in Sudan Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, relieved the civilian members of the joint collegial presidency as he plans to dissolve it.

Al-Burhan on Monday announced the dissolution of the Sovereign Council after the formation of a national unity government by the political force based on a deal brokered by the Trilateral Mechanism.

Multiple told the Sudan Tribune that the head of the Sovereign Council informed the dismissed members of the decision which is expected to be officially announced on Wednesday.

However, the dismissal does not include the three members who joined the collegial presidency in accordance with the Juba Peace Agreement including Malik Agar, Hadi Idris and Tahir Hajar.

The sacked members are Raja Nicola, Salma Abdel Jabbar, Abul-Qasim Bortum, Abdel-Baqi al-Zubair and Youssif Gad Karim.

Except for Nicola, the four members were picked to replace the FFC nominated members who were relieved after the coup of October 25, 2021.

For more than a month, the collegial presidency stopped holding its regular meetings without known reasons.

Agar had left Khartoum to the Blue Nile for over three weeks before returning last week to Khartoum and leaving for South Sudan.

While Deputy Head Mohamed Hamdan Daglo together with Idris and Hajar are touring the Darfur states to encourage tribal reconciliations.
