May 13, 2008 (JUBA) — The Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) can now join the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) in their fight against the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) in to defend the Sudanese capital, the President of Southern Sudan said.
Darfurian rebels staged a bold attack and fought fierce battles with the Sudanese army on the outskirts of the capital. However the Sudanese government said it repulsed the attack and accused Chad of backing the assault.
Al-Bashir said in a televised statement that he holds Chad responsible of the foiled attack by the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) troops against the Sudanese capital. He also announced that diplomatic relations with Chad have been broken.
The statements by Kiir signify a decision to trigger a clause in the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) which says that SAF and SPLA “shall be charged with the mission of defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Sudan during the interim period”.
Kiir returned to Juba on Sunday after a few hours visit to the national capital, Khartoum where he met with President Omer Hassan Al-Bashir and Vice President Ali Osman Taha and discussed the recent JEM assault on Khartoum’s twin city Omdurman.
The Southern leader condemned the attack in a televised address to the nation last Sunday and said Darfur problem is a political one that should be resolved through peaceful dialogue.

I personally don’t see the wisdom in the idea of the SPLA joining the SAF in the defence of Beshir’s palace. If folks had gone to school and do couple assignments, they should have known that when an organism, A feeds on another organism, B, and A happens to be eliminated by either natural or anthropogenic forces, then it becomes a happiness to B. In other words, we should ask ourselves this question, how exactly are we related to the enemy of our enemy? The simplest English that one needs to know here is that an opposite of an enemy is a friend. For crying out aloud, when are we gonna know that we are too different to collaborate on such issues? Condemning the attack verbally should be enough a trick for a wise man.

SPLA are frankly pretending to have a mutual understanding with SAF, if this is NOT true then we are gone!!.. how would this happen in day broad light that south sudan president is selling our brothers to die before the hands of SAF and JEM? . He the president has not forgotten Abyei boundary issue occupied by SAF forces and NCP administration and without fear and shame just support SAF, It can’t happen.. this way at all. Our southerners need to be repatriated to the south soon before SAF forcefully employ them to tackle the war with JEM as being their normal monkey tricks.

Bravo General Sava Kiir , you proved to be a good and wise leader looking for the unity of the sudan ,and believing in peacful co-habitaion of the land , politically i think it is a a successful move ,since that would push darfur rebel parties to sit for the negotiation table ,when they see the model of th SPLA,which has built a national sense of responsibilty.
Khartoum is capital of sudan where every sudanese has the right to feel safe (east,west,south and north,as well as middle),Darfur warring should be stopped by both parties.

Kiir is now coming to unsucessful journey. A journey of change that he spoke to people of south sudan has now become a final selling of southern sudanese to the long time enemy of the south. As indicated on the news archive, the hinderance Kiir has encountered in his leadership revealed the fact about the weakness happening within his leadership. Should Kiir alliance with Basher who is still Killing the Abyei people daily, we would all understand the policy of Kiir this time than any other time back in the history of sudan. SPLA & SAF defense of Khartoum is a tactical decision
Suppose Ibrahim Khalil overthrowned the GONU last week and declared CPA null & void because he wsn’t a signature.Whom could we have held accountable to dishonouring the peace pact? In my view there is none and therefore the decision to defend Khartoum jointly is equal to defending the CPA.
There is an English saying that goes like this ” It is better the devil you know than an angel you don’t know”. This is the second time am using it on JEM issue because to me, it means exactly what is happening in my Country and how we Southerners view the attack on Khartoum!
It is extremely fine that Bashir is getting the feeling of war in his backyard. That will let him know how Southerners felt during the war, there is no question about that. But again what could be the side effects of a regime change in khartoum through the barrel of a gun? How can that translate in the CPA implementation? …
In my opinion it could have been having castrophic effects on us in the South because JEM is anti the seccession move in the South and therefore they’re determned to drag us back to square one if they’re to be the president of GONU. To conclude my comment, i believe the decision was tactical and is the right move to protect the peace agreement from the hostile entities.

SPLA soldiers should not be used in defense of war criminals in Khartoum such as Ahmed Mohammed Haroun, Ali Kusheib and Musa Hilla. Al-Bashir, Salah Al-Gosh and Abdel Rahim Mohammed Hussein should allow justice to take place against those men responsible for the problem of Darfur.
Those three men mentioned above and others in Gos are responsible for the recent attack on the town including the ongoing mass arrests in Omdurman.
If the Presidency decided to deploy the SPLA army along with SAF to assess the situation, then let the Presidency first authorize the SPLA to demobilize all militias in the north including Darfur region and Iam quite optimistic that this strong army, the SPLA will be able to do so and bring calm to Sudan once again.

It is time now to think, say and analyse what is on political movies at Western, Eastern, and what had happened in Omdurman the twin town to the capital of Sudan. We were worry about what will come out from our President 1st L.Gen. Salva, concerning the JEM recent operation. Some who wrote before me have appreciated me to add my comments which i hope to answer most internal questions.
Brothers, Liberation is not bad, and if not that South Sudan should not have been free at the movement. Darfurian has right to claims and claim for their part in the Government system by any mechanism they like, by NEGOTIATION or Military solution. But the problem is that it is wrong were we have signed CPA with Khartoum(Capital of Sudan including South Sudan which is under SPLM/A), i which if it was at 90s, when SPLA were Strungling; and These Dafurain were eating breads with Jalaba and Targeting Southerners inside the Towns, and at Diaspra as well; the drum could be the best for any marginalise to have strong dance.
Frankly, we will have no say if they want to fight the Government areas at Darfur, far north, Central and east, Omdurman and Bahri. But we will not allow them to attack Khartoum City. where the Office of Salva is.
I guess many people will understand what i means.
Dear Southerner, the point is that we have no good relationship with NCP which can allow us to defend them at its area accept Khartoum Only which is the joint City for all. MOTOMER EL WOTHONI was about to complicate the CPA few month ago if Southerners were not in power position, and now it does not want to solve the problem of Darfur.
Lastly, We will advised NCP strongly to adjust its idiology toward darfur and bring peace as they have done to Junubiin, otherwise we will not defend Khartoum

During the 21 year struggle in the bush, these same Arabs used our brothers from Darfur to destroy us the Southerners, that is why the war was so hard to get the winer, but when the Darfurians feel relentless about war in 2003, they turned against them. I entirely agree with Kim Deng’s comment.
Astonishingly, I am disturbed by the daily negative decisions by Salva Kiir, that has prooved his incompetecy as a leader to lead us successfully, last month, he shocked the world by reversing SPLM decision to boycot Census, which was an absolute wise idea, but Salva from no where came with his daily irrigularities, so I believe, there other people who canmake better leadership than Salva Kiir. Another parturbing decision was his suspension of SPLM Convention, it this too shocked the world and other peace loving nations, we can’t entirely depent on Salva, he is not the only leader in the South and how can we bear him with his continuos errors?
The people at the Convension should simply do good job to the Southerners by voting him out of the SPLM chairmanship, I know he will rebel like what he did when he was to be replaced by Wani Igga later in 2005 by Nyial Deng, but we should know how to confront him.

In reference to the SPLA to support Sudan security operations against Darfur’s JEM by South Sudan Leader Salva Kiir, it may be the best way for him, but not for the interest of Southern Sudanese. I would like to ask a question that, do we really know who said AKTUL AL ABIT BEL ABIT. (Kill slaves by slaves)? I think we all know, and then if we know, why support? Brothers and Sisters in South Sudan let us first support security operations against those who are killing innocence people in South Sudan and support in resolving Abyei boarder issue. How can we clean somebody’s house when he had made ours dirty? In Khartoum, “Might is Right” is too often practiced at every level, the Head of State in dealing with his subject, the Doctor with the patients, the teacher with the pupils. To turn the position of “Public Servant” into that of “public oppressor” is one of the most common forms of violence used by the Khartoum. Therefore, the attack of Khartoum Omdurman City by the JEM is none of our business as Southerners. Also we should know very well that a good Arab is a Dead one.

Or did he just decide it because he thinks he is God in the South? Why then in the late 1990’s were you the people of Bharelgazal complaining about? You know, the big dispute between Salva and Garang that almost tore the SPLA apart. It was all about power. Here is now the power with you people. You people,especially his advisers need to talk to the man. Look at how he is failing in the face of the whole world. This failure leaves the rest of us with no hope that no one among you can do anything better. No hope at all that there will ever be good leader to come from Bharelgazal apart from Deng Nhial who is dead. This failure of Salva Kiir reaffirms the myth that Bharelgazals are good at nothing but theft and drinking alcohol.
Or perhaps, is the SPLA army his property or his mother’s? So that is why he use it whichever way he wants to please Bashir.
No matter what you do, you will never please the Arabs. You will work for them and they will still kill you.
