Abyei is part of north Sudan says Arab tribal leader

May 25, 2008 (KHARTOUM) — The oil rich region of Abyei is “clearly” part of North Sudan, an Arab tribal leader said today.

Mohamed Omar Al-Ansari head of the newly formed ‘Abyei Liberation Front' (Al-Sharq Al-Awsat)
Mohamed Omar Al-Ansari head of the newly formed ‘Abyei Liberation Front’ (Al-Sharq Al-Awsat)
Mohamed Omar Al-Ansari head of the newly formed ‘Abyei Liberation Front’ told the daily Al-Sharq Al-Awsat published in London said the movement was formed “in response to attempts forces belonging to Sudan People Liberation Army (SPLA)”.

“Abyei is a region of co-existence between the Arab Misseriya tribe and the African Dinka Ngok but it is part of Northern Sudan according to the 1956 borders. We view Abyei as nothing but a Northern area and part of Southern Kordofan” he said.

The border area between North and South Sudan witnessed the most violent clashes last week between Sudanese army and SPLA that left at least 22 people killed and scores injured.

Aid workers, U.N. and Sudanese officials have described the town as devastated, with the market area burned to the ground and the majority of its population displaced.

The sticky issue of Abyei was left undetermined in the Comprehensive Agreement (CPA) signed between the North and South in 2005.

However under a protocol which was part of the CPA, a commission known as the Abyei Boundaries Commission (ABC) was to “define and demarcate the area of the nine Ngok Dinka Chiefdoms transferred to Kordofan in 1905, referred to herein as Abyei Area”.

However the president Omar Hassan Al-Bashir said that the NCP is committed to the Abyei Protocol only with the border of 1905. He further said the government is not concerned with the ABC report and that the latter is of no value to them.

Al-Ansari also said the Misseriya tribe “does not recognize the ABC report as it is not worth the ink it was written in. They can soak it in water and drink it”.

“They [ABC] failed to find documents they can use to draw the borders and so they came up with their own proposals that summarized the foreign interests in Abyei” he added.

However the Misseriya leader left the door open for a compromise, saying that the issue can be solved “through local civil bodies with Dinka Ngok”.

“We and Dinka Ngok are one body. My grandmother is from Dinka Ngok…We integrated and coexisted that it is very hard to tell what tribe a person belongs to so solving our problems in Abyei is not an impossible task”.

Al-Ansari further said that Abyei should be administered jointly with Dinka Ngok “but remains part of North”.

“In the event of secession of the South we have no objection to Abyei inhabitants holding dual citizenship, In any case we think Abyei is one ship in a sea and any attempt to divide it will break it and drown it. Its alright if the Swiss political system can be implemented in Abyei” he said.

The SPLM signed a peace deal in January 2005 with the government of the National Congress Party in January 2005 ending two decades of civil war in Southern Sudan. The peace deal made the SPLM, the ruling party in the south and the NCP the ruling party in the north.

In 2011, southerners will be asked to vote in a referendum on whether they want to be independent or remain part of Sudan. In the same year Abyei will hold a separate referendum on whether to retain its special administrative status in the north or join the south.

    You are dreaming dear Al-Ansahari,

your foolish idea of liberation of Abyei supported by NCP regime will definitely end-up with loose & mourning in Missiriya society.

Thing you must to know is that, Abyei is part of South Sudan and shall remain part of the south by all means unless you think twice.

We are ready to get rid of who ever claim Abyei.

    Dear Arab tribal Leader,
I Would like to tell you that Abyei is the part of the south since the creation of world. Abyei is African Land not the Arabs Land.I keep repeated in this website that Abyei will never be the part of the north.

If the government sudan will not allows Abyei to be taken by South, and then Abyei will be second Gaza District between Arab in the north and the black African population in the south.

Please Arabs leave the Abyei to the south.Abyei is belong to the south Sudan according to the border of 1/1/1956 despite the administration of 1905.

Abyei Commission Report should be implemented in Abyei and i thought it should be part of the discussion that Dr. Machar is going to discuss with Taha.

Abyei being enacted to the southern Kordofan in 1905 doesn’t give Misserya a right to claim the Abyiei as part of the Southern Kordan but we should stick to the Abyei ABC report whether NCP does not support it.

I know the messirya interest, fresh grazing fields, oil, water, and other conducive conditions that you may enjoy in the area, but let me assure the NCP that whether by guns, negotiations or other things, the fact remains, Abyei is south sudanese State.

New Civil War Feared in Sudan As Town Empties
Here is a report n the Washington Post. It gives a lot of detail on cause of the fight.

It has a surprising line from Ted Dagne, an Africa specialist with the Congressional Research Service in Washington, who was in the region during the attack.

“This was a systematic campaign with the clear objective of displacing permanently the civilian population so the outcome of the referendum would be in the government’s favor. You depopulate, then you repopulate with Misseriya, and you’ve changed the equation on the ground.”

Abyei is part of North Sudan, the arab tribal leaders statement can be true in the sense that there are many ways in which Islamist exemists are trained to terrorize other physically, emotionally and spiritually, but let me remind the leader of his foolish statement Abyei will never ever be part of your shabby and slummy North, otherwise there is need to dig a big canal between Southern Korodofan and the Abyei area so that we can see who crossing that canal and can be answered by fire the defends the South.

I would like to comment on the baseles claim by so-called Abyei Libraters, the statement release by foolish leader is just a tognue playing in the mouth but he does not mean what he said, in the first place what is the meaning of word Abyei in Arabic? do they have something call Abyei in their language? Abyei is the name of the eadible tree which bear some fruit in Dinka language and you can not get this name else where in Sudan with other tibes apart from Dinka. Arab should not put a baseles cailm any where they took their cattle for grazing, looking for greenpasture does not mean you own the land. pliz Abyei is part of South Sudan and will remain part of South Sudan till the coming of Jesus.

Dear all, I have seen that your comments based on north-south can give the self-appointed leader and Bin Ladenist Mohammed Al-Ansari to be what he thinks he is.

Do not be surprised when such people who call themselves Arabs claim that Abyei is part of their land or north. Which north are they talking about? Is it the north of Sudan? If we go back to our history of Sudan, were there Arabs in Sudan before occupation that destroyed our Nubian Kingdoms in what they claim to be the north of theirs today? These were the people who destroyed our African traditional cultures and our religions in order to replace them with their discriminative cultures just to mention a few.

I think it is clear to everyone among us that from their testimonies, they were and are not Sudanese natives but through force they became what they are today. Starting occupation from the north then moved to the west and east and now towards the south of the country.

Al-Ansari can claim that Abyei is part of his present location because his grandfathers took that location by force in the past. Now it is his turn to take Abyei this time and tomorrow he will claim another region in the south after leaving Abyei behind.

To all of you don’t think much about what has been said but think about what all of us can do to stop the occupation.
