Egyptian police kill Sudanese on Israeli border
June 10, 2008 (CAIRO) — Egyptian police shot dead a Sudanese migrant on Tuesday as he tried to slip across the border into Israel, police and medical sources said.
The man, named as Mohamed Taher Mersal, 30, was part of a group which refused to obey Egyptian police orders to stop. Police opened fire when the group ran off towards the Israeli side of the border, the sources said.
The police patrol detained three Sudanese from the same group, they added.
Egyptian police have killed at least 13 migrants this year as they tried to enter the Jewish state. Scores of others, mostly from Africa, have been detained.
London-based rights group Amnesty International says thousands of migrants try to cross into Israel from Egypt’s Sinai peninsula each year, with numbers rising since 2007.
The migrants, including many from Sudan, are seeking work or asylum away from conflict at home and harsh living conditions in Egypt, where activists say African migrants face economic marginalisation and racism.

The irritating mistreatment and incessant killing of the Sudanese by Egyptian police should be scrunized to safe the nation the shame marks it has been engraving on itself for the last five decades.If the sudanese government tried all the means possible to coax the Egyptian government to extradite the JEM rebels who were in Egypt when JEM attacked Omdurman,why can’t it do the same for the suffering civilians?
It seemed it is impossible to repatriate those Sudanese due to financial constraints,but it does not require a lot of money,even the 250000 Sudanese pounds that was to be “invested” in killing of one Sudanese can be used to safe lives of thousands of Sudanese.This tacitly tells the world that Sudanese money is available only for terror related projects.

I am appealing to International community to correct Egyptian government to respect human life.it is not good to always hear person being kill by Egyptian police.What is so important in killing innocent persons? Pliz let ‘s not busher people like goat. I don’t understand,is Islam so harsh in promoting that inhuman way of handling foreigners?.you cann’t claim that you are head of government while these things happened,where is President Mubharak?
