RSF allege Sudanese army bombed Khartoum oil refinery

A large fire that broke out at Al-Jaili refinery as the RSF accused the army of bombing the strategic site on December 6, 2023

December 6, 2023 (KHARTOUM) – The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has accused the Sudanese army of bombing the Al-Jaili Petroleum Refinery, located north of Khartoum, for the fourth time since the outbreak of the conflict between the two sides.

The airstrike, which occurred at dawn on Wednesday, reportedly caused significant damage to the refinery.

In a statement, the RSF condemned the attack as a “barbaric act” that targeted a vital national asset. They further asserted that the Sudanese army’s actions violated international laws and conventions.

The Sudanese army has not yet commented on the allegations, but some activists have suggested that the army may have bombed an oil tank truck belonging to the RSF.

Pictures circulating on social media show thick smoke rising from the refinery, engulfed in flames.

The destruction of the Al-Jaili Petroleum Refinery is likely to have a significant impact on Sudan’s economy, as it is a major supplier of fuel to the country. The incident also raises concerns about the safety of other critical infrastructure in Sudan, which could be targeted in future clashes.

The international community has called for both sides to exercise restraint and engage in dialogue to resolve the conflict peacefully. However, there is no indication that either side is willing to back down from its demands, suggesting that the conflict is likely to continue for some time.
