Kuwait, Sudan agree to boost economic partnership

September 7, 2008 (KHARTOUM) — Sudan and Kuwait agreed today to enhance strategic economic partnership between the two countries especially in the field of agricultural investments.

The visiting Kuwaiti Minister of Finance Mustafa Al-Shimali met the Sudanese president to hand him a letter that included an invitation from the Emir of Kuwait to attend the Arab Economic Summit to be held in Kuwait on 19 and Jan. 20, 2009 and deals with ways of strengthening economic partnership between the two countries.

Awad Al-Jaz, the Sudanese Minister of Finances said following a meeting held Sunday with his Kuwaiti counterpart they reached an agreement to boost economic investments particularly in agricultural field adding it will be implemented as of next week.

He disclosed that Kuwait would send technical teams to negotiate projects that are to be implemented and conduct the necessary studies with the Ministry of Finance and National Economy. He added that next week will witness the meetings of the aviation fields while the meetings of agriculture and food security projects are to start in next October.

With regard to the next year Arab summit, the minister said the president accepted the Kuwaiti invitation.

Summit will discuss seven key sectors including investment, the development of the productive sector, trade and the establishment of the customs union and trade in services, infrastructure especially in transport, tourism, electricity, communications, modernization and reform in the Arab world, education, poverty and unemployment.

Al-Shamali stressed his country’s keenness to boost the strategic economic partnership with Sudan and its desire for enhancing the relations in all fields.

He told reportersg that the two sides would continue consultations on how to speed up implementation of the projects that serve the interests of the two sisterly countries and peoples.
