Sudan, Iran sign security cooperation agreement

KHARTOUM, March 27 (AFP) – Sudan and Iran have signed a memorandum of understanding on security cooperation, Omdurman radio reported Saturday.

The official broadcasting facility said Sudanese Interior Minister Abdel Rahim Mohamed Hussein and Iranian counterpart Abdel Wahid Mosawe concluded talks by signing the accord, which provides for an exchange of visits by senior officials from the two ministries.

The memorandum also calls for each country to offer facilities and training to police forces of the other, the radio added.

It said Iran pledged its support for peace and security in Sudan while Sudan voiced backing for Iran’s efforts to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

The two countries in addition expressed support for the Palestinian people in their struggle against Israel, the radio said.

Mosawe also conferred during his visit with Sudanese Enegry and Mining Minister Awad Ahmed al-Jaz, the radio said, adding that Jaz declared that Iran would be welcome to invest in petroleum operations in Sudan.
