Northern Bahr el Ghazel endorses nomination of incumbent governor for 2010

December 31,2009 (KHARTOUM) — Authorities of the Southern State Northern Bahr el Ghazal have officially endorsed nomination of incumbent Governor Paul Malong Awan for the same gubernatorial position in the upcoming general elections scheduled to take place in April 2010.

Speaking from Aweil town, Aweil East county commissioner, Diing Aher Ngong, confirmed that all five counties have endorsed Malong’s candidature for governorship and for maintenance of SPLM chairmanship in the region.

“We brought him a car as a gift affirming our confident that he will unite the party and develop Aweil into better state,” Ngong said.

“We also nominated him again because he has a clear vision full of intention to change the face of Northern Bahr el Ghazal into peaceful state among ten states of Southern Sudan,” he added.

Diing advised SPLM members wishing to contest the same position at the 2010 election to decline for Malong and stop campaigning.

Robert Majok Kuol, one of the designated campaign managers also said approved nomination of governor Malong into chair describing him as the right man to lead the party and state government

“I would like to confirm that his programmes are always successful. This is why we nominated him,” he said adding they in reference to supporters of the incumbent governor are happy because they did not want someone else to take over and divide the party.

Majok sounded confident that Mr. Malong would strengthen the party further, adding as SPLM; “we feel that we must maintain the power that we have as a party.”

Earlier, commissioner Diing said governor Malong draw supports from all walks because when he came to the chair, there was insecurity at the border and this insecurity was allegedly settled by Malong.

He therefore counted it as one of his successes and another as initiator of Dinka Malual-Messeriya Peace conference held in Aweil a year ago and there are plans to hold similar conference with South Darfur intended to reconcile Rezigat with Dinka Malual as well.
