Fear in Lakes state after report of warplane bombing

By Manyang Mayom

March 30, 2010 (RUMBEK) – Aerial bombardment occurred in Awerial County of Lakes state on Friday at Agormager near Mingkaman, causing no harm to anyone, a source told Sudan Tribune on Saturday afternoon.

The plane was unidentified and supposedly dropped bombs in a forest at 11 a.m. at Agormager near Mingkaman.

The rural community was surprised to see a warplane bombing in the area since the 1997 end of military aircraft raids in this region. An Awerial resident who named himself as Mr. Deng said that there was nobody injured in this bombardment since the plane dropped its bombs deep into the forest.

The Lakes state caretaker governor went to the scene to see the pieces of the bomb on the ground. Bomb fragments were brought to Yirol West County of Lakes state as evidence and Awerial County Commissoner Aguto Kuok is also in the state capital pushing the UN to go to witness the scene where the incident is said to have occurred.

“We are scared again – this is an horrible situation again which reminds me of the death of my mother of 1992 when a warplane carried out aerial bombardment that resulted in her death,” Mr. Deng said. “This is a warning sign of returning to war again in Sudan and also a big question mark to free and fair election in Sudan.”

He described the plane as looking and sounding like an Antinov aircraft. “Our worry is that all AK-47s were disarmed by SPLA and now we are just staying like women – we need full protection from the government of Southern Sudan as now there are signs of aggression threatening our community,” said Deng.

Lakes state government is concerned and worried about the alleged incident – the state authority at first made no comment as state caretaker governor Telar Ring Deng was on the ground in Yirol East County. Later the governor confirmed the plane bombardment but did not say who carried it out. Ring said that investigation needs to be carried out over this incident.

On Monday, County Commissioner David Marial affirmed that “(War is not over), there are signals of return to war because a warplane carried out bombardment in Awerial County some days ago – eat all proprieties of those political parties and don’t forget your right as a Southerner.”

David Marial worked on a special security detail for Government of Southern Sudan (GOSS) President Salva Kiir Mayardit before his recent appointment as Rumbek East County Commissioner. He is among the youngest of the state’s eight county commissioners.

The incumbent president, Salva Kiir Mayardit, is scheduled to campaign in several counties of Lakes state during a two day visit beginning on Thursday, according to a radio announcement made by SPLM presidential campaign team official Gordon Maper Manyiel.

Nobody from the national government was found immediately to comment on this article.

Fear in Lakes state after report of warplane bombing
This is a very childish report indeed, will any stupid person believe this report that northern army just fly around ropping bombs inside Lakes state out of the blue? hows tupid can anyone get?

Has lakes authorities informed the military and security about any such events of alleged bombings? it is the work of the security and military intelligence who will visit the scene and carry out any investigations as to wether there was any such bombings, also if it happens to be a bombings who might it be? could NCP be out of its mind and carry out such a stupid acts for no any good reasons at all? or may be another third party who is trying to cause a war between north and south by dropping malicious bombs so north and south can blame eachother?

It is very immature and irresponsible for the commisioner who himself has worked int he security to make such irresponsible claims, even if there was any bombings as he claims, he has to informed the security minister, militray , security and intelligence, this are the appropriate bodies who will double check the scene, colelct evidence and interview any witness.

As for now this sounds like a very immature news report and ill concieved. because who will bomb and why? what is the reasons for the bombing?

-There is no official war between north and south.

-There is preparatiuon for elections going on.

-No recent conflict or serious escalation of fighting between north and south.

-How does commisioner know that it is the north who dropped any bomb, why will they do that?

-How does he know the plane is antinov and did anyone actually see the plane and hear the sound?

So who is dropping the bomb and why? the comissioner of lakes state should stop acting like uneducated and ignorant person, he has to be responsible and alert, if he think there was bombing, he has to inform the appropriate authorities who will check the issue and investigate instead of spreading malicious fake reports.

This is a report that shold have been double checked before rushing to submit on internet, another failure from the writer Manyang Mayom for your pre-mature reports.

    Dear readers,

Why don’t you give yourselves ample time to find out exactly what happened in that forest? If it were to be a real bombardment, it would have targetted Rumbek and other visible villages instead of targetting a forest. The plane could be dumping some toxics there! This should have been the suspicion and the issue for discussion and investigation!

And by the way, why bomb Lakes state or Yirol in particular leaving all the other states near to the North if the suspects are NCP? And why target a forest instead of a town?

Is Salvatore Kiir scared by this news and will cancel his appearance in Lakes state?

Please, please if you were real fighters like I did, don’t panic as a result of this news. It brings many questions to mind than answers. Don’t start to run away yet to Uganda and Kenya. It could be something else and not a direct bombardment!!!!

    Don’t panic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Aerial bombardment is clear signal that willy-nilly the war is coming, we hope the SPLA/M political and military leadership will rise to the occasion . However,I do not know what the short-sighted political analysts and oil- money hungry Presidential envoys who sold their political souls up to the Khartoumers such as the cheap envoy Scott bn. Gration is saying when he hear about this bombardment. Iam sure Gration will say “it happened by mistake like the death of innocent civilians of Darfur” or ” the pilot missed his target in Darfur by great margin”.
