Jonglei State Assembly dismisses absenting member

August 5, 2010 (BOR) – Members of the Jonglei State Legislative Assembly have voted out of parliament one of their members suspected to have joined a renegade army general after absenting from the Assembly since the time the April election results were declared.

[John] Agany who won Pigi South constituency on SPLM ticket was dismissed by 30 to 2 votes after a brief debate in the parliament. The Assembly’s Conduct of Business Article 72 according to the Speaker of the House, Peter Chol Wal, obliges members of the Assembly not to absent from official duties for three months.

“John Agany never came for swearing-in after he won elections and is against the Assembly’s Conduct of Business article 72,” Chol said.

Though the whereabouts of Agany could not be independently verified, Jonglei state lawmakers claimed during Thursday sitting that Agany is an active member of George Athor Deng; a former SPLA general who took arms against the Government of Southern Sudan after losing Jonglei state’s gubernatorial election.

The Assembly’s decision has paved the way for fresh elections in Pigi South Constituency Number 2.

In a related development, chairpersons of 12 specialized committees are announced today by the Speaker. Women legislators have taken three chairs.

The Assembly also voted to start three month recess on 19 August, 2010.

Jonglei State Assembly dismisses absenting member
    Dear Readers,

Peaceful resolution of Jonglei conflict is paramount at this critical time. Kuol(the cold-blood murderer), Gier Chuang Aluong(the minister of internal Affairs) and Peter Chuol Wal(Jonglei Speaker) need to quit celebrity politics or immediately stop media war on George Athor. Gier & Peter Chuol Wal, both from Piji have to stop politicizing everything about George Athor in Jonglei.

The best thing to do is to focus on bringing about a peaceful resolution in Piji/Jonglei. There are better things than voting John Agany out of Jonglei Parliament at this time through Kuol & Peter Wal’s political pressure on those parliamentarians. New election in Piji will cause even more chaos, and that is what Kuol like to instigate there. Kuol can’t rule Jonglei like this-through divisions. There are Atar & Khorfulus.

If the civilians from Khorfulus feel they are not represented, they would have brought their case to the high court in Jonglei. The court may annull John Agany’s election in the interest of Khorfulus civilians or behalf & order the authority to temporarily appoint someone in the interests of Khorfulus residents until the environment permits new election during peaceful time. This would be legal, legitimate and avoids Kuol’s divisive politics of the state. Most of the current parliamentarians did not win their election legally.

Therefore, most are not consider credible/legal or legimate to fairly represent Khorfulus residents on voting John Agany out of the parliament they illegally enter, in the first place.

Any intelligent person knows George Athor is raising, training & may be equiping his forces soon. Only peaceful approach to talk Athor out of carrying full blown war on kuol’s gov’t in jonglei would help in Jonglei. So, Kuol, Gier(through his influence in Jonglei), and Peter Wal have to quit fueling fire in Jonglei. We have enough problem already there.

Three months for recess, where are they going for three month? It is absurd for members of legislative to take a ninty days vacation where the state is a hot-bed for violent. I don’t understand the rationals of those assmbly members who would take this long time during the months the south is approaching the referendum. Rationally, thirty days will seem reasonable but ninety days (90) is grossly a mockery.

I know you want to murmur around but no bad lack will happen because we know how to handle our affairs not in your style of blinding after the issue.

Lt Kuol Manyang is now your governor, stop calling him murderer.

How do you think about someone who stay away for three month without notice? is this the kind of leadership you want? so that people who go after their personal gain and be waited for position to lead? Wow! may God help them!
