Sudan army blocks UNAMID from accessing scene of recent attack

September 8, 2010 (KHARTOUM) – The African Union-United Nations mission in Darfur (UNAMID) said today that it has been prevented from reaching a village in North Darfur where more than seventy people were reportedly killed by pro-government militias.

UNAMID4.jpgThe attack took place last Thursday at a market in the Tabra village which is inhabited by farmers who cultivate the fertile area in Jebel Marra. Rebels from the Sudan Liberation Army (SLA) said that the assault was led by a militia leader under the name of Al-Nur Ahmed.

They further said that the grave cases among the 79 wounded civilians were transported to MSF dispensary in Tawila, and Al-Fasher.

The Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) spokesperson said at the time that they were not behind the attack but said that they repelled bandits killing twenty seven of them.

UNAMID initially said that SLA rebels barred them from entering the village to investigate the incident. However, the rebels denied the peacekeepers’ statements saying that they informed UNAMID about the incident and urged them to intervene to protect the civilians who were in imminent danger.

Today UNAMID said its daily briefing that on its way to the village they were stopped by an SAF convoy and were informed by the commanding officer not to return before two days due to ongoing SAF operations in the area.

Last July, the UN Security Council (UNSC) renewed UNAMID mandate and called on the peacekeeping force to step up its security role and focus on civilian protection rather than seeking to broker a peace deal or oversee reconstruction projects.

Ban Ki-Moon if I were in your position I would have resigned and go back to Japan to live as free Japanese man or a woman. Staying in such position while Suppers power countries allow the innocent people in Darfur as the case in Tebara, and DRC being killed with your name, meanwhile you are just artifecial SG have no any word to say.

The history is registering these killings for Japan . However, do not forget also that your grandfathers were killed in war. its you to be the first to repudate yourself from such ORG who smear your name with the name of peacekeeping, while those whom you are suppose to protect are killed on daily basis.Howeve’; at the same time, the good hearted donors keep on paying their blood expecting that poors are protected by the money they pay.
