Sudan’s Bashir reverses decree on appointment of new Tax Authority chief
January 16, 2013 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese President Omer Hassan al-Bashir abruptly nullified a decision he issued on Monday by which he tapped Mohammed al-Fath Beik as the new secretary-general of the country’s tax agency.
This week Bashir sacked Mohamed Osman Ibrahim from this post and named Beik as his replacement.
Sudan’s official news agency (SUNA) did not state reasons for Bashir’s quick reversal.
But some sources suggested that Beik’s slowness in assuming the new post prompted Bashir to backtrack on his appointment decision.
