Four killed in Lakes state attack
June 23, 2015 (RUMBEK) – At least four people have been killed in Lakes state after armed youth attacked a police cell in Yirol West County to free detained colleagues.
The violence reportedly got underway when some youths from Acok stormed the prison in which one of their counterparts was detained by law enforcers.
Makeny Aciek, a police officer in Aluakluak, confirmed that incident saying “clashes between the Awan and Acok clans occurred in Yirol West county of Lakes state county.
At least four people, he said, from both sides occurred on both sides of the clans.
“Efforts to apprehend the suspects is hard because residents usually refuse to share security information with security agent,” said Aciek, adding “The criminal investigation department is being instructed to track the suspected people who got involved.”
Over the years, the Acok clan has continuously been having conflict with the Awan sub-clan.
In 2012, clashes erupted in Amack cattle camp between the Acok and Awan clans, leaving several people killed. Since then, justice has never prevailed on the culprits.
