British charity donates mobile clinic to Darfur IDPs
KHARTOUM, Sudan, Aug 16, 2004 (PANA) — A British charity has donated a mobile
clinic to local authorities in the strife-torn Sudanese western
region of Darfur to serve internally displaced persons scattered
in remote areas, especially in Jenina and Alfashir.
The British Humanitarian Aid country secretary, Dr. Zidan Abdu
Zidan, said Sunday the donation was in recognition of the
“desperate need of such assistance in such circumstances”.
Zidan said the clinic will operate in Darfur states during the
time of war and peace, and was equipped to provide various
medical services.
He said the group was also making available a qualified staff
comprising a surgeon, two physicians, nurse, two administrators
and vaccination technician.
Relief agencies estimate that some 1.2 million Sudanese are
uprooted from their homes and scattered in the Darfur region
owing to hostilities between the Khartoum government and rebels
in the western part of the country.
