Libyan FM discusses Darfur issue with Sudanese ministers

TRIPOLI, Dec 29, 2004 (JANA) — The Secretary of the General People’s Committee for Foreign Liaison and International Cooperation Abd-al-Rahman Muhammad Shalqam met yesterday evening in Tripoli the brother minister of agriculture and forestry in Sudan and head of the Sudanese delegation to Darfur talks Majdhub al-Khalifah, brother Minister of Humanitarian Affairs in Sudan Muhammad Yusuf Abdallah and the delegation accompanying both ministers. The delegation included several members of the Sudanese National Assembly.
Present at the meeting was the brother personal envoy of the Secretariat of the General People’s Committee for Foreign Liaison and International Cooperation to Africa.
The brother secretary of the General People’s Committee for Foreign Liaison and International Cooperation made a declaration to the correspondent of the Jamahiriyah News Agency about what had been discussed during the meeting.
He said the meeting discussed measures taken to solve the Darfur problem and to achieve reconciliation within the framework of the role of the brother leader of the revolution Al Qadhafi, who was commissioned by the fifth African summit held in Tripoli on 17 October 2004 and based on international pleas from world leaders and the UN, calling on the brother leader to intervene to solve this problem and also based on Libya’s role in Abuja negotiations.
The brother secretary said the meeting discussed all the details, developments, initiatives, the role that the brother leader is playing as well as preparations for the forthcoming talks to be held in the Great Jamahiriyah with the participation of all the parties, actors, social classes, Sudanese people’s leaders, all rebel movements… opposition parties and government officials to draw up a position which all parties agree to – in order to speed up the establishment of security in Darfur… the arrival of relief … and the implementation of previous agreements.
The Sudanese side participating in the meeting reiterated its absolute confidence in the brother leader of the revolution and in his decisive role in finding a solution for this problem.
