al_Merghani.jpgASMARA, Feb 11, 2005 (Sudan Tribune) — The executive body of the Sudanese opposition National Democratic Alliance (NDA) concluded its meetings yesterday in the Eritrean capital, Asmara, and approved the Cairo agreement signed between the NDA and the government.

However, the NDA had some reservations on four points and called for its amendment in the coming round of talks slated for next week. According to NDA’s resolution, some of the articles were generally stipulated without specifications, thereby calling for details and decisive stipulations.

This, particularly touches on the article concerning judicial bodies and economic issues, particularly on corruption and the looting of public wealth, and guiding the issue of the armed forces and other regular forces to a committee which will be formed by the transitional government at the right time.

The issue of the civil service and the military to be given to a legal national committee and allowing the trade unions to establish their own laws.

The meetings also approved the Beja Congress and the Free Lions organizations as the official representatives of eastern Sudan. The meeting approved the legality of the two organizations, as well as the Sudan Liberation Movement.

The NDA leadership meetings also reiterated the need to establish a special forum for discussing issues related to eastern Sudan. It also reiterated its support for the forum of negotiation in Abuja peace talks with the rebels movements in Darfur or any other new forum for solving the Darfur crisis.

The meeting considered the Cairo and Nairobi agreements as complementary and historic ones.
