Vietnam’s president receives Sudan’s foreign minister

HANOI, May 24, 2005 (VNA) — President Tran Duc Luong received Sudan’s Foreign Minister Mustafa Osman Ismail in Ha Noi on May 23. The Sudanese Minister arrived in Viet Nam on May 22 for a three-day visit at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Dy Nien.

M_Ismail1.jpgDuring the meeting with President Luong, Foreign Minister Ismail said Sudan wants to promote political, economic and cultural co-operation with Viet Nam, particularly in oil and gas, agriculture and energy.

The Sudanese FM praised Viet Nam’s achievements and experiences in agricultural production and expressed his hope that Viet Nam would soon send wet rice experts to Sudan under a bilateral agreement.

According to the FM, Viet Nam can export to Sudan electronics and aquatic products and import sugar.

President Luong highlighted Viet Nam’s foreign policy of enhancing multifaceted co-operation with Asian, Latin American and African countries, including Sudan.

He said that Viet Nam, having experienced the struggle for national independence and reunification, wants African countries that are experiencing conflict such as Sudan to quickly stabilise their social and economic situations for development.

President Luong shared his guest’s view on the fields in which the two countries can boost co-operation, namely prospecting for and tapping oil, agriculture, power and irrigation.

FM Ismail conveyed Sudanese President Hassan al-Bashir’s regards and invitation to visit Sudan to President Luong. The Vietnamese State leader thanked the FM for the invitation.

The same day, a ceremony was held in Ha Noi to welcome the Sudanese FM.

During the ceremony, FM Nien described the Sudanese FM’s visit to Viet Nam as a chance for the two sides to discuss measures to push up bilateral ties in general and between the two Foreign Ministries in particular.

He also said that the visit would help boost the two countries’ co-operation in agriculture, oil and gas, aquaculture, infrastructure development and healthcare.

FM Nien hosted a banquet in honour of the visiting Sudanese FM and his entourage tonight.-Enditem
