Riots break out in Khartoum after Sudan vice-president’s death

KHARTOUM, Aug 1 (AFX) — Riots have broken out in the streets of the capital following the official announcement of vice-president and southern leader John Garang’s death in an air crash, an Agence France-Presse correspondent reported.

Thousands took to the streets of Khartoum and its outskirts, some wielding knives and guns. Several people were lying on the ground, some possibly dead.
