Aug 26, 2005 (Khartoum) — The United Nations yesterday appealed to the Sudanese government and the [Sudan] People’s [Liberation] Movement [SPLM] to hasten the implementation of the most important clauses of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement which was signed between them last January.

In a statement, the spokesperson of the special representative of the UN secretary-general to Sudan, Radhia Achouri, said it is upon the two sides to give a clear indication to the Sudanese people that they are committed to their pledges, that there is no retreating on the peace accord and that it is on the right track.

She expressed hope that the two sides would overcome the reasons, which make the two sides to delay the implementation of the agreement.

She ruled out the existence of political differences between the government and the SPLM. [Passage omitted]
