First vice-president in Uganda; briefed on probe into Garang’s death

Sept 6, 2005 (Khartoum) — The first vice-president, Lt-Gen Salva Kiir Mayardit, held talks with the Ugandan president, Yoweri Museveni. The talks touched on the bilateral ties in all aspects.

His excellency also received a briefing from the national committee investigating the case of former first vice-president, John Garang.

[Correspondent] The first vice-president and president of the southern government, Lt-Gen Salva Kiir Mayardit, arrived in Kampala on a short visit. As soon as he arrived, he held talks with the Uganda president, Yoweri Museveni, at the State House [Nakasero].

The talks between the two sides touched on the importance of strengthening ties between the two countries and stability in the region, as well as support for the peace efforts in Sudan and northern Uganda.

The first vice-president also received a briefing from the national committee investigating Dr John Garang death led by Abel Alier.

Dr [name indistinct] said the follow-up report and the Ugandan committee’s report will be handed over to the president soon.
