Sudan VP to inaugurate southern parliament
Sept 26, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — Sudanese First Vice-President and President of the southern government, Salva Kiir Mayardit, will tomorrow, Tuesday 27 September visit Juba, capital of southern Sudan.
During his visit, he will inaugurate the legislative council for the south, as well as address its opening session.
Salva Kiir on Thursday 22 September appointed 161 MPs in the parliament of southern Sudan, 110 MPs from the SPLM, 25 MPs from the National Congress party and 26 MPs from other southern political forces.
The widow of his predecessor John Garang de Mabior, Rebecca Garang, was among the appointed MPs in line with a January peace deal that ended more than two decades of north-south civil war.
