Sudanese president, Jordanian monarch hold talks

Oct 25, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — Sudan’s President Omer Al-Bashir has discussed with King of Jordan, Abdalla II, the role that can be played by Jordan in mobilizing support by the Arab states to the efforts of rehabilitation and development in Sudan.

al-Bashir_Abdullah_of_Jordan.jpgTalks between the two sides focused on ways of promoting bilateral relations, development projects in the country and the efforts to implement the peace accord.

Sudanese-Jordanian relations and ways to promote them further, especially support for development and reconstruction projects, were discussed.

The two sides stressed the importance of activating the joint cooperation between Khartoum and Amman and the accords in the political, economic and social fields.

On the meeting between the Jordanian monarch and First Vice President and President of the Government of Southern Sudan Lt. Gen. Salva Kiir, Minister of Foreign Affairs Lam Akol said in a statement to SUNA that the meeting tackled Jordanian support to infrastructure projects in southern Sudan.

Akol said “discussions with the first vice-president focused on ways to support the peace process and the assistance which Jordan could offer in the development sphere, the reconstruction of South Sudan and Sudan as a whole.”

The Jordanian king was briefed by the first vice-president on the overall situation in South Sudan and the steps made to form a government for the south.

The minister described the visit of the Jordanian monarch as successful and fruitful.

The Jordanian King, His Majesty Abdalla II, was seen off at Khartoum Airport by President Al-Bashir.
