Sudan – Egypt committee to start Saturday 12 November
Nov 11, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — Sudanese Second Vice-President Ali Osman Taha on Saturday arrives in Cairo on a two-day visit during which he is to head the Sudanese delegation in the fourth session of the meeting of the Higher Egyptian-Sudanese Committee.
The meeting will tackle over two days an economic integration programme to boost trade volume between the two countries. Sudan’s unity and stability are also high on the agenda. The talks will also activate educational, investment, health and trade exchange agreements signed by both countries.
The Egyptian delegation will be led by Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif.
Taha is expected to deliver a lecture on the current developments in the country on Saturday evening at the University of Cairo and meet the Egyptian President, Mohamed Hosni Mubarak on Sunday.
The two sides will sign the minutes, covering 12 agreements, four memos of understanding and five work programmes and three agreements on education and endowment, on Sunday.
The two sides are also expected to hammer out mechanisms to increase the volume of trade exchange, investment and cooperation between Egyptian and Sudanese companies to set up joint projects in the fields of health, mining, roads, transport, electricity, harbours and land reclamation.
Sudan is looking forward for real partnership with Egypt, said Minister of International Cooperation, Al-Tigani Salih Fedail, head of the Sudanese side in the plenary ministerial meeting to arrange for the convocation of the coming fourth session of the joint higher committee.
The minister said in a press statement that the two sides are working closely for this end which will be economically, politically and culturally advantageous.
The meeting has focussed on river, sea and land transport, he said, referring to Egypt’s role in the reconstruction of war-affected areas.
