Sudan’s Bashir stresses national unity

Nov 25, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — Sudanese President and Chairman of the ruling National Congress (NC) party Omar al-Beshir on Friday appreciated the party’s three-day conference as an important stage that the country has approached in way to implement the south-north peace agreement inked last July.

He briefed the reporters with great challenges facing his partyin the next stage to protect the current government of national unity.

Al-Beshir said the NC is a comprehensive political party and this would qualify it with elements of national unity.

“Our battle to gain elements of national unity is to eliminate all bad feelings of the people in southern Sudan toward their brothers and sisters in the north,” said al-Beshir, adding NC members from the south could realize the objectives of the battle.

He noted that after the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement returned home following the peace agreement and took full control there, NC members in the south have remained stable.

The Sudanese president also told reporters that the coming stage in Sudan would require lifting of all doubts that have been created by war in the country.

War in Sudan has been imposed and the southerners would bear a key role to eliminate the feeling of doubts and to recreate trust among the Sudanese people, he stressed.

“One of our fights in the coming stage is to spread culture of peace particularly among the youth who were born and brought up inthe time of war,” al-Beshir said.
