Sudan, Chad ruling parties agree to ease border tension
Nov 27, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — The Sudanese ruling National Congress and the Chadian ruling National Salvation Movement have affirmed the necessity of self-restraint and dialogue to contain the misunderstanding and to maintain the good neighbourliness and firm relations between the two countries.
A press release issued Sunday 27 November by the Sudanese National Congress and the National Salvation Movement of Chad called for maintaining the eternal ties between the two sisterly peoples.
The two sides also called for disarmament of all the armed groups in the two countries. The ruling parties also stressed the necessity of taking all the necessary measures in order to end the across-boundary robbery and looting acts in order to secure the lives and properties of the citizens along the joint border between Sudan and Chad.
The statement also stressed the necessity of joint work by the higher leaderships of the two countries to remove the misunderstanding and to paralyze any circle that might stir tension and lack of confidence between the two countries.
The Chadian delegation invited the leadership of the National Congress to visit N’djamena in the coming period to continue the dialogue to implement the issues which were agreed upon.
Meanwhile, the secretary-general of the Chadian National Salvation Movement, Mohamat Hussein, explained at the regular press forum of official news agency SUNA Sunday that they were invited by the National Congress to participate in its second general conference toward consolidating the relations between the two nations.
He said that the peoples of Sudan and Chad are striving to achieve peace and stability in the region and to reach objective and final solution for the difference between the two countries.
Meanwhile, Hussein said that the political leaderships of the two countries have appreciated the Chadian initiative in this regard. He added that President Omar al-Beshir has directed the National Congress to follow up and to work for implementation of the Chadian Initiative in order to solve the current tension, affirming that the differences were inflated by media.
Chairman of the African department at the National Congress, Hassan Bargo, expressed Sudan keenness to bolster its relations with Sudan, saying that their differences through dialogue.
He appreciated the efforts being exerted by the national unity government to achieve a comprehensive and permanent peace with all the neighbouring countries.
He attributed the recent tension in the relations between Sudan and Chad to the difference in views and misunderstanding, accusing unnamed tribal and ethic bodies of working to escalate the crisis.
He further denied any support by the Chadian government to the rebel Sudan Liberation Movement (faction of Mani Arkoi Minawi), affirming that the Sudanese – Chadian relations are deeply-rooted and historic.
