October 15, 2003 — Joint meetings between the National Democratic Alliance led by Deputy Chairman Abd-al-Rahman Sa’id and leaders of the rebel Sudan People’s Liberation Movement led by its Chairman Dr John Garang de Mabior are continuing in Rubmek town in southern Sudan.
The meetings have conducted a joint evaluation of the recent peace talks and discussed ways of coordinating efforts and stances in the current round of talks.
Although the framework [agreement] agreed upon was confined to the government of Al-Bashir and Sudan People’s Liberation Movement, the meetings have been discussing ways of coordination in addressing the issues under discussion.
Among those issues are finding ways for the NDA forces to participate in the special committees on the interim period arrangements in general and in the first six months after signing the final agreement in particular.
