Ethiopia’s Court to issue pass cards to attend CUD leaders trial

Dec 25, 2005 (ADDIS ABABA) — The Ethiopia’s Federal Supreme Court has announced preparedness allowing presence at the trial proceedings of the opposition CUD leadership, including Eng. Hailu Shawul, the official ENA said.

The CUD members have been charged for attempt to dismantle the Constitutional system by instigating violence, after last November unrest.

Cards for entrance into the court room have been prepared to enable each family of the defendants to take up two seats reserved for observers of the trial proceedings, the Court told ENA on Monday.

The limited space in the court room necessitates the need for the court to limit the number of attendees, it said. The defendants’ families will be given the entrance cards through the defendants.

It also invited journalists, diplomats, private citizens and government representatives who want to attend the trail proceedings to register and pick up entrance cards from the court’s office, room number 21.

It said entrance will be issued as court room holding capacity permits, adding, no one without entrance card will not be allowed.
