Sudanese political party demands closure of Egyptian consul

Jan 15, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — As the killing of the Sudanese refugees continues to trigger a wave of condemnation and angry among Sudanese people, a Sudanese political party demanded the government to close the Egyptian consul in Sudan, a press statement said.

A_Sudanese_man_-2.jpgIn a prees statement, the Sudan National Labour Party (SNLP) criticises the lack of action from the government of national unity after the killing of the Sudanese regugees in Cairo by the Eyptian police.

“Not a word was heard on the media. The Government of Southern Sudan (GOSS) alone came up with the formation of a committee and closing down of the consul in Juba for security reasons”, says the SNLP Secretary-General of the Southern States, Shadarach Baher Michael.

The question to the Government of National Unity (GONU) is, “are those refugees not Sudanese?” When the Americans invaded Iraq, the National Salvation Government organized a protest march against the Americans and also when the Palestinians were being killed by Israelis, the Sudanese came out to the streets to protest against the Israelis. Then why is the GONU turning its back to the Egyptian massacring of the Sudanese refugees?, the statement said.

The SNLP says concerned about the plight of the refugees and demands the following:

1. Closure of the Egyptian consul in the Sudan (Khartoum Office) and stopping any other Egyptian activities in Sudan until the issue is resolved.

2. The National Assembly has to discuss and form a committee to investigate the issue.

3. The Egyptian government has to compensate for the removed organs of the victims (for it is a sin to trade with in organs of the dead).

4. The return of our fellow citizens to their homeland through UNHCR.

5. The bringing or transportation of the victims home, is the SNLP stand on this issue of our fellow brothers and sisters who are in total dilemma. May the Almighty rest the souls of the victims (the dead) in eternal peace.
