Eritrean president, UN’s envoy to Sudan hold tlaks

Mar 13, 2006 (MASSAWA) — Eritrean President Isayas Afewerki today received and held talks in Massawa with the UN secretary-general’s special envoy on Sudan issue, Jan Pronk.

prok_afwerki.jpgIn the detailed discussions, the two sides exchanged views on reinforcing the Naivasha Peace Agreement on Sudan and on seeking ways of resolving the Darfur and east Sudan issues.

Moreover, both sides discussed ways of cooperation between Eritrea and the UN.

Asserting that Eritrea supported the Naivasha Peace Agreement, and ensuring its continued upholding, President Isayas underlined that a settlement of the Darfur and east Sudan issues was vital not only to the Sudanese people but also to the Eritrean people and the region.

The UN secretary-general’s special envoy was welcomed on arrival at Massawa International Airport by Mr Yemane Gebreab, head of political affairs at the People’s Front for Democracy and Justice, ruling party (PFDJ).
