Sudan’s ambassador to Netherlands recalled over “financial irregularities”
KHARTOUM, Nov 4 (AFP) — Sudan’s ambassador to the Netherlands has been recalled over “financial irregularities” at the embassy, Foreign Minister Mustafa Ismail said Tuesday.
But he denied an Eritrean news report that ambassador Abdel Halim Babufatih had defected to Sweden in late October.
The foreign ministry’s financial and administrative department had unearthed irregularities, “involving not much money”, the Sudanese minister told reporters.
“A team of auditors from the ministries of finance and foreign affairs that we sent there for the purpose confirmed the occurrence of financial irregularities” at the mission, he said.
“We have nominated a new ambassador and recalled Babufatih who will be back home after he is through with his personal affairs,” said Ismail.
