Salva kiir stresses Sudan’s commitement to Abuja deal

May 13, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — First Vice-President Salva Kiir Mayardit has stressed the government’s total commitment to the Abuja peace deal which it signed with the armed movement in Darfur adding that the government will also establish mechanism to implement the agreement.

Salav_Kiir_3.jpgFollowing a meeting with Kiir at the Presidential Palace yesterday, the head of the government negotiating delegation, Majzoub al-Khalifah, said the First Vice-President affirmed the continuation of contacts with the groups which have not signed the agreement and urged them to join the peace process for the sake of development and progress in Darfur.

Meanwhile, Al-Khalifah yesterday briefed Sudanese parliament on the Abuja peace deal on Darfur. He explained the various clauses contained in the peace agreement and stressed the government’s comment to implement it.

Al-Khalifah said the agreement is complete and comprehensive and that is represents an important step to realize peace in Darfur.
