President Afwerki, SPLM delegation discuss Eritrea Sudan ties

May 27, 2006 (ASMARA) — President Isaias Afwerki held talks with the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement’s (SPLM) delegation headed by its secretary general Pagan Amun, and Dr Mansur Khalid, presidential advisor , who came to attend the 15th Independence Day anniversary.

During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations between Eritrea and Sudan.

The SPLM delegation commended Eritrea’s role in the Sudan peace process and urged it to continue with its constructive role.

President Isaias assured the delegation that Eritrea would continue its support until the Sudanese problem gets lasting political solution.

Eritrea will sponsor peace negotiations between Sudanese government and the rebel Eastern Front. Talks should start next month in Asmara.
