Foreign investments in Sudan amounts to $1.038 Billion

June 7, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — The ministry of investment said in a report presented to the federal parliament that the foreign investment in Sudan amounted to 1,038 billion Dollars.

The National Assembly Wednesday, referred report of the Ministry of Investment on the ministry performance for 2005 and the ministry plan for 2006 to the concerned committee to discuss it and prepare a report about it.

The report, presented by the State Minister for Investment Al-Sameeh Al-Siddiq, showed that the total licensed investment projects in the country amounted to 2535 projects in 2005 against 1660 in 2004.

The report indicated that 1091 of these projects were actually implemented in 2005 against 662 projects in 2004.

The actual capital, which flew in the country in forms of machineries, equipment, crude material and cash liquid money for production, amounted to 1,038 billion Dollars, the report said. It further indicated the growing rush for investment in the country last year.

The report reflected the concern with reactivating the halted investment projects in the south, within the ministry’s 2006 plan, through coordination with the South Sudan Government and supporting the investment administrations in the south along with encouraging the private sector in the country to venture foreign partnerships.
