Vietnam to boost cooperation with Ethiopia

June 25, 2006 (HANOI) — Vietnamese senior officials have affirmed Vietnam’s wish to foster the traditional relations and strengthen the multi-faceted cooperation, particularly on economics, with Ethiopia.

Their affirmation was expressed during receptions given from June 17 to June 26 to a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, headed by the Head of Audit and Inspection Service, Ambassador Aman Hassen.

The Ethiopian delegates visited Vietnam with the aim of learning about the country’s experience in enhancing the economy’s operational capacity, the use of domestic and foreign sources for the country’s development, particularly in such areas as investment promotion, trade and tourism, and finally, the role of the Foreign
Ministry and other relevant ministries on the issues.

During their stay in Vietnam, the Ethiopian delegates had working meetings with senior officials of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Trade, Planning and Investment, as well as officials of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the Viet Nam-Africa Friendship Association.

Vietnamese officials expressed their sympathies on difficulties faced by Ethiopia recently and praised the increasing role played by the African country in the international arena.

Ambassador Aman Hassen stressed that the results of their Vietnam visit are helpful and practical for Ethiopia in drafting the country’s policy of open-door and comprehensive reform and said that the fruitful political ties between the two countries must be nurtured by effective economic relations.

He called upon Vietnamese enterprises and investors to come to the Ethiopian market because Ethiopia is a gateway to other African countries in the region. The Ethiopian diplomat proposed that the two sides to continue exchanging delegations at all levels, particularly, between the two countries’ business communities.
