African Union envoy to meet AU partners
July 25, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — African Union envoy to Sudan will hold a meeting with AU partners in Khartoum to tackle on the ceasefire commission and the donors’ conference.
The special representative of the AU Commission chairperson in the Sudan Ambassador Baba Gana Kingibe will tomorrow, 26 July, 2006 meet with representatives of AU partners at the African Union Mission. in the Sudan (AMIS) Headquarters.
The meeting that is expected to take place in the afternoon will also be attended by senior officers of AMIS. It is to be recalled that the Ambassador has just returned from Brussels where he attended the Donors’ Pledging Conference for AMIS.
Tomorrow’s meeting will, among other things, deliberate on the following items: The way forward on the Ceasefire Commission and the Joint Commission; the Donors’ Pledging Conference and the DPA implementation process.
Meanwhile, the AU Ceasefire Commission last Monday commenced the discussion on the Disarmament of the Janjaweed plan that was submitted by the government of the Sudan to the chairman of the CFC and AMIS Force Commander on 10 July, 2006.
It is expected that the Ceasefire Commission will submit its comments and observations before the end of the week, said AMIS spokesperson Noureddine Mezni.
