Pakistani troops leave for Sudan to join peacekeeping mission

Oct 18, 2006 (ISLAMABAD) — A Pakistani army contingent departed for Sudan to take part in the United Nations peacekeepingforces there, an army statement said on Wednesday.

Brigadier Mohamed Arshad, Commander Corps Logistics, saw the contingent off at Islamabad International Air Port, the statement said.

While talking to the departing troops Brig Mohammad Arshad urged the soldiers to maintain the highest standard of professional excellence set by the Pakistani troops in the past.

He said that the Pakistani troops due to their professional excellence and humanitarian assistance were considered a guaranteefor peace in peacekeeping missions around the world.

The Pakistani troops are rendering peacekeeping duties in Sudanfor more than a year. But the army statement did not say how many Pakistani troops would be in Sudan.
