Ethiopia Meles, South Sudan Rebecca discuss highways construction

Oct 19, 2006 (ADDIS ABABA) –- The Ethiopian prime minister discussed with the Southern Sudan minister of transports today discussed boosting the transport between Ethiopia and South Sudan and the construction of a highways network.

Rebecca_Garang-3.jpgThe Ethiopian Prime Minister, Meles Zenawi, received Thursday in Addis Ababa Rebecca de Mabior, the Minister of Transport and Roads in South Sudan Government and widow of the late First Vice – President and the leader of SPLM Dr. John Granag de Mabior.

The two parties discussed the current situation and the rehabilitation process in south Sudan. They also dwelt on ways of expanding trans-boundary roads and transport links between Ethiopia and South Sudan.
De Mabior stressed the importance of consolidating the relations between the two countries through establishment of roads that link between them as well as development projects at the joint border areas.

The two sides also conferred on means to consolidate the relations between Ethiopia and south Sudan.

De Mabior said that the two peoples have strong historic ties, and that such relations should further be enhanced through roads and transport facilities.

She has praised the historic and deeply rooted relations between the Sudanese and Ethiopian peoples.
