Sudan embassy in Belgium attacked by pro-Darfur demonstrators
April 30, 2007 (KHARTOUM) –The Sudanese diplomatic mission in Belgium suffered an act aggression after a group of demonstrators participating in the protest of the Global Day for Darfur actions, attacked it yesterday.
Some Sudanese nationals were among those who attacked the embassy, the official SUNA reported.
The Sudanese ambassador in Brussels, Najib al-Khair Abdelwahab, said that the act of aggression caused damage to the gate of the embassy and the main reception as well as some windows.
He said that the aggression coincided with an off day and that the embassy’s staff were away, adding that the embassy had resumed its official activities on Monday 30 April as usual.
The envoy expressed regrets that some Sudanese nationals could resort to such heinous acts of aggression against the embassy which is the property of all Sudanese, adding that such acts would harm the values and norms of the Sudanese people.
Abdelwahab said that the aggression against the embassy was condemned by officials and people of Belgium because it was in contradiction of the customs and values known to the European communities, and it was also considered to be an uncivilized way of expressing opinion.
