SPLM delegation to meet Sudanese president on Tuesday

October 15, 2007 (KHARTOUM) — SPLM delegation will meet Sudanese president on Tuesday to deliver a letter from the former rebel movement on the implementation of a peace deal signed in January 2005.

“President Omer al-Bashir will meet us tomorrow at 12 o’clock to receive a letter from the movement on the peace implementation. Also, we will fix an appointment for the First Vice president, Salva Kiir to discuss the content of the letter with him.” Said Yasir Arman, a SPLM deputy secretary-general.

He further told Sudan Tribune that only Salva Kiir as leader of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement will discuss with Omer al-Bashir the chairman of the National Congress Party the issues raised in the letter.

Al-Bashir had refused on Sunday October 14 to receive a SLPM delegation headed by Southern Sudan vice-president, Riek Machar.

The SPLM on Thursday suspended its participation in the central government, accusing Beshir’s ruling National Congress Party of failing to implement a 2005 north-south peace deal that ended Africa’s longest-running civil war.

The SPLM complained in particular about the failure of Khartoum’s troops to leave the south, the lack of progress on resolving the status of the oil-rich province of Abiye and failure to allow the south to carry out a cabinet reshuffle.

LAM AKOL

According to the SPLM deputy secretary general, accusations of violation of the CPA formulated by the NCP are just to mask the National Congress breaches of the peace deal. “This political manoeuvre will not lure the Sudanese people who know very well the truth,” he said.

Arman insisted that the suspension of the SPLM participation in the unity government is not provoked only by the rejection of al-Bashir to remove Lam Akol. He underlined that al-Bashir party has violated the CPA and the constitution and “we want to fix these issues”.

Yassir Arman also said Lam Akol who is a member of the SPLM political bureau expressed his commitment to implement any decision that the movement’s leadership undertake with regard to the ministerial reshuffle.

He also added that the democratic transition and the freedom of press are on the top agenda of the movement and not only Abyei and the border demarcation.

    COngratulations Salva Kiir
Its quite sometimes since the signing of the comprehensive Peace Agreement, and from the conscience of a living human being we have seen that not upto date has the implementation of the CPA been reflected. The move by H.E the first vice-president of the Republic of Sudan and the president of the GOSS in consultation with his IPB( Interim Political Bureau) in withdrawing its
members from GoNU has raisen negative critisism from the enemies of CPA and people who wants Southern Sudan remain a dumping ground for oppression. It has also caused positive reactions and analysis from the minority who understand why SPLM/A went to the bush in the first place. If we want to understand the decision better we better go back to the history of our movement.its tricky in that the signing of the CPA was looked by the sudanese and especially the southeners as a begining of a new life which the reverse tells as the begining of a new era of marginalisation. The main issues that took us to arms in 1983 are the same things that will take us to arms in 2007 if not properly looked at.The SPLM as been a nursing movment for all this years and that is why the NCP has taken advantage of the weakness of SPLM’s focus of full implementation of the CPA. i wants to congratulate Salva Kirr for his courage to withdraw his persons in the GoNU.We are clearly aware that the implementation of the CPA is not a one-man work but a join document that needs join efforts.
The English man was not wrong when he said that ‘there is always a cause for an alarm” the cause for our alarm is the reluctancy shown by our partners and therefore we should not forget that we are also an asset to any future of SUDAN and that means our rights should nt be subject to scrutiny by the same people we signed the document with.In righting the agreement and let the world know that this needs an urgent address….Salva deserves all the support that can be accorded to him.
Its also clear that there are visioned enemies of the SPLM who want to see the falling of the SPLM and intentionally witness the death of the CPA, i thought SPLM has done alot by liberating the southerners in the first phase that will be confirmed in 2011 after winning the negotiating war.Its upon us now to decided whether to be part of the race to the big agenda of self-determination or not of which if its true then we should start the game to tha era now.Southern Sudanese are also being misled by some ill-intentioned political parties that are not even in protocols. Lets nt be driven by the material wealth that we see as the backborn of our history. The SPLM started the move and we should watch the move altogether to avoid the enemy from capitalising on that internal greed and weakness.
I therefore want in this regard to call on the southerners to back up this crucial decision and avoid confusing the mission of the withdrawal. Thanks SPLM and if that means going back to the negotiating tables then we are wisely ready for the same. The vision-mission of the SPLM is clear, and anybody who thinks that its nt clear should seek appeal from a well informed southerner instead of junking into destroying the hopes of southerners
Long live SPLM!! LONG LIVE SOUTHERNERS!!

confrontation looms over cabinets reshuffle between SPLM and Sudan ruling party
    Dear, Omar El-Basir
It has come to my notice that your government is rejecting nominies of SPLM to replace the spleeping one.Why is that happing? if you are inssisting with rejection,it shows your government just wants those who don’t preform thier duties to weaken GoSS’ Administration. This is thought of betrayal. You fear competents,Like Dr.Mansour Khalid who you think will do the will of Sudanese, shame on you and your government! The Dismises are SPLM and nominies are SPLM members,What is your concern with thier replacement?
Those of Lam Akol learnt yes.But SPLM wants to replace him with other Dr like him.If you want to dissolve CPA do it.as your advisor said you don’t care SPLM pulling out, this shows your brutal NCP works and that shows you are wrong leaders who learnt nothing and forgot nothing in leadership, shame to all of you.
