Sudan First Vice President to visit Washington Sunday

November 3, 2007 (KHARTOUM) — Sudanese First Vice-President and President of the Government of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayadrit, will travel on Sunday to Washington to discuss Sudan peace implementation.

Salva kiir is expected to hold talks on Monday November 5 with US top administration officials in Washington on the current political crisis between the two partners in the government of national unity.

The Minister at the Presidency of southern Sudan government, Luka Piong, said that Kiir will visit the United States on the invitation of the US administration to discuss the peace process in Sudan, and Darfur crisis.

He said that Salva Kiir will inform the US administration on the CPA implementation and the steps undertaken by of the two partners in this regard.

The First Vice-President is expected to meet with the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, and members of the Security Council.

Also he will speak about the CPA crisis in a public meeting organised by the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington on November 7.

This is the third visit for Salva Kiir to Washington since his appointment in August 2005 as First Vice President. The first visit was in November 2005, the second in July 2006.
