February 10, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – The former Minister of Interior, Izz al-Dine al-Sheikh, denied reports about the deterioration of his health in detention.

Recently, media outlets published claiming that the minister was under detention following a dispute between him and the head of the Sovereign Council Abdel Fattah al-Burhan over protecting the headquarters of the Empowerment Removal Committee.

Before the coup, al-Burhan had ordered the withdrawal of a protection force from the premises of the committee but upon the request of the premier minister, al-Sheikh restored the force.

In a statement to the official news agency SUNA, the police spokesperson said that the head of the Police Guidance and Services Department, Hussein al-Jaali, and the Police Spokesman, Hassan Tijani visited the former minister at his home on Thursday.

“The former Minister of Interior, Izz al-Din a-Sheikh told the visitors that he is enjoying his full freedom and health,” said the agency

Also, al-Sheikh said he does not suffer from any health problems, dismissing reports about the serious deterioration of his health.

Al-Burhan dissolved the transitional government in October 2021 after the coup d’etat. Recently, he appointed Anan Hamid Omer as the acting interior minister.

The former interior minister was known for his closeness to the civilian leadership and his cooperation with former Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok.
