March 16, 2022 (KHARTOUM) The Sudan Liberation Movement of Minni Minnawi (SLM-MM), arrested a Darfur militia leader accused of killing three of its military personnel in an ambush in North Darfur, on Wednesday.

The SLA-MM combatants were escorting the head of the Darfur Regional Government Engineering Unit and his team when they were ambushed in the Desa area of Kutum locality in North Darfur on Tuesday evening.

The peace signatory group announced the arrest of the assailants’ leader Hafez Daoud who had been a former officer of the Border Guards Forces of Musa Hilal before the dissolution of the militia and their integration in the army.

“We will not allow anyone to shed the blood of our comrades,” said the SLM-MM in a statement released by its spokesman Ahmed Hussein Mustafa.

Daoud was arrested with Hilal in 2017 after a disagreement with the Rapid Support Forces Commander Mohamed Hamdan Daglo Hemetti over a disarmament campaign in Darfur.

After his release last year, the militia officer joined Arab armed gangs operating in the east of the Kutum locality area in North Darfur state.

In March 2021, a Sudanese military released Hilal and officers who were in prison for resisting the al-Bashir regime.
