UNICEF hails Ethiopia’s efforts in curbing child mortality

January 24, 2008 (ADDIS ABABA) — UNICEF applauded Ethiopia’s fast tracks in curbing under five child mortality rates.
In a statement it released, UNICEF said “Ethiopia has reduced child mortality by 40% over the past 15 years.”
The positive change Ethiopia grasped in tackling child mortality in recent years is the result of a strong political leadership within PM Meles led government .the UN body strongly believes.
“This is all about how a strong political will and strong leader ship can assure a child survival in a poor nation” UNCIEF said.
Despite Ethiopia being one of the top populous nation with relatively high population rate and facing harsh consequences from poverty related and political difference – borne conflicts ,Ethiopia still remains to be an outstanding African nation taking “proactive steps” in assuring primary health services and in curbing child and maternal mortality rates. It added.
Referring to the tremendous changes it brought in health provisions UNICEF has put Ethiopia as “home for new wave in child survival revolution.”
