Sudan players in row with Egyptian tv crew
January 26, 2008 (KUMASI, Ghana) — Sudan players were involved in an “ugly incident” with an Egyptian television crew at the African Nations Cup finals on Friday, crew members said.
Hossam Mansour, an Egyptian TV producer, said that the crew had been trying to interview Sudan officials.
“We were arguing with Sudanese officials when the Sudan players suddenly arrived…our cameras were destroyed,” Mansour told Reuters.
Adham el-Kamouny, an Egyptian TV presenter, said that the incident “was very ugly”.
The crew said they would report the incident to the Confederation of African Football.
A BBC reporter who witnessed the fracas said two journalists were arguing with the Sudanese officials before the Sudan players “waded in”.
“Several players manhandled the cameraman before they were eventually ushered into the hotel and the door shut,” BBC reporter Richard Connolly told the BBC Web site (bbc.co.uk)
“The rumpus continued outside where hotel security and a number of Ghana police became involved with one of the police officers holding his gun in the air in an attempt to quell the trouble…it was only when the team bus departed for training three or four minutes later that things became calm,” Connolly was quoted as saying.
Sudan meet Egypt in their Group C match in Kumasi on Saturday.

I knew that the first wrong doers in African Cup of Nation will come from Sudan because our people are wrongly oriented by the so called Arabs, when i heard that Sudan has qualified for competition, i felt suspiciou because of our future guilt that will be caused by our players due to lack of civilization, any way we have to pray so that the continent pardon us.

I am behind my national team! I was very ahppy with way they played Zambia and Egypt they played better than those two teams regardless of the fact that they diddn’t score goals, they presented themselves very professionally and i have a very great hope in them for the future if there will be no rubbish war breaking again and delay their progress!
our national team deserve respect and thus tribute of all the citizens of Sudan!
I don’t care about Egyptians or what happened to them as they are rubbish anyway, as I don’t believe in their Africansim! they are the one that cause us this mess in Sudan, they must fuck off and as I don’t want to do anything with them! they will be defeated by our African brothers, it is just a matter of time! the fucken Tunisia and moraccon too will be defeated by big african brothers!
