Drone attacks hit Sudan’s Um Dabaker power station, cutting electricity to two states
October 29, 2026 (RABAK) – Drone strikes hit the Um Dabaker thermal power station in Rabak early on Thursday, cutting electricity to Sudan’s White Nile and North Kordofan states.
The strike is part of an escalating series of attacks on energy facilities in areas controlled by the Sudanese army.
The government has accused neighbouring Ethiopia of supporting attacks on power stations across Khartoum, Sennar, Al Gedaref, Al Jazirah, and Red Sea states.
‘Kamikaze drones attacked the Um Dabaker station… in the early hours of Thursday morning, leading to the sound of violent explosions and plumes of smoke rising from the site,’ eyewitnesses told Sudan Tribune.
The attacks targeted the main feeders and the station’s control room, knocking the facility offline, local sources said.
The Um Dabaker station has faced repeated attacks since the conflict erupted in April 2023. A previous strike in January 2026 damaged transformers and reduced its operational capacity.
Separately, the Emergency Lawyers group condemned drone attacks carried out by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Oct. 27 and 28.
Those strikes targeted electricity and fuel facilities in Omdurman, Al Managil, and Haya, the group said.
The targeted sites included the Al-Markhiyat transformer station in Omdurman, the main power station in Al Managil, and fuel depots in Haya.
The escalation represents a continued targeting of civilian infrastructure that threatens basic services, including water, health facilities, and food supplies, the legal group said.
About 13 power stations have been targeted in October, worsening the humanitarian crisis, the group noted.
The lawyers held the RSF responsible, demanding an end to attacks on civilian infrastructure and calling for accountability under international humanitarian law.
