Jonglei celebrates SPLM 25th anniversary; crediting SPLA for peace

Philip Thon Aleu

May 16, 2008 (BOR, Jonglei) – The fourth celebration (after peace) of the Sudan’s People Liberation (SPLM), and also the 25th anniversary since the movement was established in 1983 in Jonglei capital Bor Friday May 16 has being dominated by calls to fully support the army, for the institution (army) had suffered for over 20 years to bring peace.

“This nation (New Sudan) belongs to the SPLA (Sudan’s People Liberation Movement) and any one who let the army suffer risk his life,” SPLM women league representative Migrate Achol told SPLM supporters who converged at Bor Town Freedom Square today.

She says the army has to enjoy freedom for without it, the Compressive Peace Agreement (CPA) shouldn’t have been reached with Khartoum.

Elder representative Alier Biar says he do not any true liberation – at least at the movement. “My children, you have forgotten the rightful ways of dealing with leadership. There is fighting in Abyei, Wau and other parts of Southern Sudan and you are wasting time struggling for power,” He said.

The army weighed war on May 16, 1983 at Bor that sparked across other towns in Jonglei. That army then was transformed to be the SPLA. Celebration in Jonglei capital is thus seen as the an act to remain SPLM supporters for some challenges ahead and the way forward.

“We commemorate this day to remain our of our lost brothers who cool the soil with their blood and scarified their lives for the marginalized people of the Sudan,” Guest of honor State Minister Amuor Kuol for Land and Physical said.

we all belongs to SPLA/M the people of all southern sudan states.its now time for our leader/elders of Southern Sudan to open their eyes so wide, because we dont need arab slavery ness and take in charge of the our lands and resources like oil etc again.

we had enough of mistreated, genocide and slavery ness from Arab muslimists people to origins of sudan(SPLA/M.SLA/M,JEM AND EASTERN SUDAN.

we all know that, SPLA and civilians had been struggle for far too long . finally, the peace(CPA) was signed by our big enemy Al- Bashir and with our great leader Dr John Garang De Mabior Atem in jan 9th 2005.

Yes, we have the right to celebrate. However, Alier Bair is right, there so fighting not only in other parts of the southern but in other parts of the Sudan. If I am not mistaken, the policy of the SPLA and that of Dr. John was the liberation of the of whole Sudan, one Sudan. Or has this changed. Are we going to sit around abd wait for the referundum in 2011 or are we at lease going to work to achieving the dream of a man that we followed and fought along for so many years. May the Lord grant ever lasting peace.
