ICC prosecutor to name new Darfur suspects next week

July 9, 2008 (WASHINGTON) – The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court Luis Moreno-Ocampo will name new Darfur war crimes suspects on Monday, multiple sources told Sudan Tribune.

The ICC has not made a formal announcement yet.

In his report to the UN Security Council (UNSC) last month, Ocampo made his harshest condemnation of Khartoum saying that he collected evidence of a “criminal plan based on the mobilization of the whole state apparatus, including the armed forces, the intelligence services, the diplomatic and public information bureaucracies, and the justice system”.

Ocampo said that his office is investigating who “is maintaining Haroun in a position to commit crimes; who is instructing him and others”.

The statements by Ocampo were taken to suggest that he is going after senior Sudanese officials.

Some analysts have expressed fears that indicting senior officials may complicate the peace efforts in the country.

Sudan has so far refused to hand over two of its citizens charged by the ICC of war crimes last year saying the world court has no jurisdiction.

The judges of the ICC issued their first arrest warrants for suspects accused of war crimes in Sudan’s Darfur region in early May.

The warrants were issued for Ahmed Haroun, state minister for humanitarian affairs, and militia commander Ali Mohamed Ali Abdel-Rahman, also know as Ali Kushayb

Sudan has not ratified the Rome Statue, but the UN Security Council triggered the provisions under the Statue that enables it to refer situations in non-State parties to the world court if it deems that it is a threat to international peace and security.

Catch the big in the pool and leave little one to grow. I mean here Mr. President Al-bashir must be named as a suspected and leading hand in the suffering of Darfurians and therefore must face the consequences of his regime and actions.

Power of the People! Power to the people!

The list just run as follows:

    1. President Omar Bashir, Chief suspect

    2. Ali Nafi

    3. Ahmed Haroun and

    4. Ali Kushyab respectively.

May the long arm of the law act against those forelisted.

    Try your luck,

    Uncle Louish, the humble Gent.

Mr. so called president Al Bashir mate, how do you REALLY feel now? I guess the nights have turned long eh!! Sleep has just deserted you. You longer believe in your self-made dignity. You are not sure whether those who advised you to back up Janjaweed in the first place, were actually loyal to you or to their own ego!

How bad is it not to be able to eat, drink, sleep, or even have some nice conversations with the many widows you have taken under your wings?

Feel the pressure and believe you are only a human worth nothing when the whole world is against you… ENJOY YOUR NEWLY FOUND PAIN and remember the sufferings of the marginalized Sudanese and the oppressed.
