A Sudanese dies from dehydration in Israel after crossing from Egypt
July 18, 2008 (TEL AVIV) — A Sudanese refugee who succeeded to cross into Israel from Egypt, died from dehydration yesterday, a Tel Aviv based news website reported today.
In a new dramatic development on the conditions of the Sudanese refugees in Egypt, a Sudanese who sneaked into the Israeli territory, dehydrated and died near the border with Egypt, Ynetnews said on Friday.
The source didn’t disclose the identity of the died infiltrator but said that the Israeili army and ambulance teams treated two other infiltrators who were lightly hurt and took them to Be’er Sheva’s Soroka hospital.
The Sudanese infiltrators face the risk to be killed by the bullets of the Egyptian soldiers but this is the first time they die from dehydration.
According to United Nations figures of 2007, the number of the Sudanese in Israel was estimated at 1,200 refugees from Sudan in Israel; however hundreds sneaked the border since the beginning of this year.
