John Garang Institute admits 97 students for degree course

By Philip Thon Aleu

August 1, 2008 (BOR TOWN) – 97 students will start degree program at
Dr. John Garang Institute of Science and Technology in Bor on
September 15, 2008 after passing tests in the six months bridging
course.

Garang_Students_2008-1.jpgSix more students, having unsuccessfully passed, are pending
degree admission conditioned to a supplementary exam early September.

The Institute will offer Faculties Medicines (Pharmaceutical Technology (4
years), Ecology (3 years) and Forestry & Public Gardening (4 years);
and Faculty of Law. At most 26 students will enrol in each faculty.

Garang Institute in Bor becomes the only higher Institution of
learning able to award degrees; and established independently, in the
post war semiautonomous nation of Southern Sudan.

The Institute is a branch of Free International University of Moldova (ULIM) in the Agreement of Establishment between Jonglei State government and ULIM signed on 22 February, 2008 in Bor Town. But on July 23rd, 2008, GoSS President Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit endorsed a memo lifting Garang Institute to government privileges.

104 students, 92 from Jonglei state including 4 females, joined in
February, 2008 after thorough screening test. In the closing ceremony
today, the Deputy Governor Hussien Mar Nyot assured youths that
the same screening will continue for admission to this Institute
despite criticism that few Counties in the State dominated the
admission.

“If 104 students from one woman are the best, we shall take
them,” he said adding “I don’t want this politics of minority or
majority tribes in the Institute,” he said.

Unlike the first set of students dominated by Jonglei citizens, all
students across Southern Sudan will compete equally in either
December, 2008 or early January, 2009 for the most limited vacancies
at Dr. John Garang Institute.

My appreciation goes to the deputy governor about his message of keeping politics out of admission procedures or criteria to Garang’s institute. Only the best academics should take those limited positions (not based on tribes or relatives of government officials). No one in their right senses should admit Deng or Gatkouth when Lago can do better than anyone of them.

Great idea that students from other states will be given chances to compete for positions with those in Jonglei in the near future.

    Hi my former statemates:

First of all Mr Hussien need to follow his cousin Saddam Hussien to hell before he ruin our Jongolei. No body within Jongolei like his hiden dirty policies full of lies and descriminations except may be his jarks.

In fact there is nothing like best and poor students in the South Sudan. Other communities didn’t joint that fake institute not because they don’t have best students but actually because of other reasons include

    1. The institute was purposely made to serve greedy Bor not every body in South Sudan.

    2. The screening is normally carried out inside villages, there is nothing like anouncement of screening to the public, no information being delivered to other states or even counties within Jonglei itself.

    3. Bor manufactured scary tactic to bar others away from joining the institute by falsly creating insecurity between them and other communities around the state.

    4. Bor knows other counties will separate away from them and form new state, Well of course that will definitely going to happen because it don’t make any sense when one tribe enjoys state benefits through the names of others who are alive direct that way. Truely, this is clear declaration of separation by Bor community byalienating others and sending them away to form their state, Anyuak, Murle, Jie, Kachipo and Nuer need to calculate that good. We can not be denied state benefits and still we have to remain foolishly as part of that state, that don’t read anything to my eyes.

    5. They lied that, those who are accepted are form four leavers while in real sense all those who are in that institute are former primary drop-outs whom most of them fail KCPE and didn’t find their ways to the colleges or universities because of their dullness and worst performance. We all know those good Bor boys who past their KCPEs and KCSEs did not wait so called Garang institute established here among snakes, most of them went to USA others to Australia meanwhile few of them who didn’t go abroad had been accepted either in Kenyan or Ugandan colleges or Universities. I know most of these students even from their faces as the very failures whom their learning abilities only suit Garang institute where acedamic work-load is only 1/9 compared to what other students are doing in Kenyan universities leave alone abroad.

I heard some of them even have very difficult times just to introduce themselves.

Because of all these actualities, Mr. Hussien is welcome to screen everybody in the village include his grandmother and let him supply these poor boys with ten (10)degrees each. It is also worthy for him to find ten(10) jobs per these weak boys with fake degrees because no state or county that will humiliate itself to hire Garang institute graduate while those who came with heavy degrees from Kenya, Uganda, are left unhired, leave alone those smart boys who are in western world when they return with their long waited degrees.

I am sure also that, if county need qualified teachers or whatever expert,it will be better to hire foreigners than those guys who are licensed through traditional skills.

Arabs says, truth is bitter, I know some of you will not agree with me though I don’t mean to insult anybody, but the reality remain reality to the end.

I am sure everyone agree with me

    God bless.

It is absolutely of no surprise to hear that the only high insitutions in south Sudan is mamarial college in Jongle state.Actually it is a real step towards the development of so called “New SUDAN” not only that by also as a indication to remember our heros.
However by mentioning the name of the late Dr.Garang will not help the whole process of achieving his vision but people of south Sudan must know that they should come together to achieve their goal so we can remember forever.
    Thaks
